Faculty Council

The Faculty Council is a representative body of the VIMS Faculty whose members receive their authority from the VIMS Faculty as stipulated in the VIMS Faculty Bylaws. The FC provides a forum for the discussion of the concerns and interests of VIMS faculty with regard to the Institute and William & Mary more broadly. The FC also serves as consultant and advisor to the Dean/Director on matters of concern to the faculty and shares responsibility with the administration for maintenance and enhancement of the stature and effectiveness of VIMS, the Batten School and William & Mary.
Composition of the Faculty Council

The Faculty Council Chair serves for three years and also serves as a VIMS representative to the W&M Faculty Assembly, along with the Chair of the Academic Council. The two Chairs alternate holding the VIMS positions on the Faculty Assembly Executive Committee. Faculty Council representatives serve for a three-year term. All positions begin on July 1. The Vice Chair and Secretary are elected from the membership each year at the first meeting after July 1st. Each section elects two representatives; in addition, there are two at-large positions that are elected from the full faculty.
